Why I Started Nine Inning Finance

“Tell me, why should I pay all these fees with you when I could just buy a low-cost portfolio of Vanguard funds?”

My boss posed this stumper during my mock client presentation, the final step before I became a working financial advisor at a big Wall Street institution. I froze. Deep down I knew that a low-cost portfolio of Vanguard funds was likely the best option for this mock couple. But I knew I couldn’t say that.

After stalling, I came up with a jargon-filled, bloated answer I knew my boss wanted to hear. I passed.

I enjoyed my time working for two of the biggest players on Wall Street. I met some amazing people and learned a lot about money and how the system works.

But I quickly realized that the system is not set up to benefit the customer. A mentor once told me you have to sell your soul a little bit to be successful in this business. He all but admitted it: The system is set up to benefit the big Wall Street firm.

I’ve decided to see if there is another way, keeping my soul intact.

I’m starting Nine Inning Finance, LLC to offer a customer-first, cost-effective financial planning service I wish existed

Nine Inning Finance offers the opportunity to team up with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and:

  1. Stay in control of your money. Nine Inning Finance is an “advice-only” firm. You aren’t forced to move assets to my firm in order to work with me. In fact, you can’t move assets to my firm! There are no “investment minimums”, so you aren’t excluded if you don’t have a mountain of assets saved up.

  2. Minimize conflicts of interest. With no ulterior financial motive to sell certain products to receive commissions or higher fees, advice-only financial planners can truly act as a fiduciary in your best interest.

  3. Keep costs low. I offer one service: The Clubhouse, a three-month financial planning program. You can continue working with me for an annual fee + hourly advice as needed.

My favorite part is you’ll never hear a jargon-filled, bloated answer from me ever again. Leave that to the pros at the big Wall Street firm.
